the silenced dance floor — an installation exploring electronic dance music's origins and the hollow feels masked by the music.

Concept

Unlike electronic music born from engineering and academia, EDM genres were typically created first by marginalized groups who didn’t conform to social norms. Dance floors provided spaces for self-expression — but this freedom ended upon departure.

By removing sound from the performance, the work highlights the hollow feels masked by the music on a dance floor. Performers execute DJ-like movements with turntables and synthesizers, but no audio plays during the exhibition.
